Trump recently joked that Canada should become the 51st state of the United States, he even suggested it directly to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau during their meeting at Mar-a-Lago. He made a similar suggestion in an interview with NBC recently while discussing Mexico.
“We’re subsidizing Canada to the tune over $100 billion a year. We’re subsidizing Mexico for almost $300 billion. We shouldn’t be—why are we subsidizing these countries? If we’re going to subsidize them, let them become a state,” Trump said in the interview.
Trump has claimed for years that tariffs would boost US jobs and manufacturing, and it’s not just political talk, he was proven to be right when he imposed tariffs during his first presidency that resulted in what many say was the greatest economy in our nation’s history!
