President Trump has recently signed a new executive order that would require voters to show proof of U.S. citizenship to register to vote.
The order calls for updating the federal forms voters use to register to vote with a requirement that voters must show proof of their citizenship.
The order also requires states to remove noncitizens from voter rolls. It calls for states and federal agencies to share data to prosecute election crimes and grants federal agencies access to state voter rolls. It also directs federal agencies to share data with states to help states check the eligibility of the names on their voter rolls.
As expected, voting advocates on the Left have already made it known they plan to fight against the order. They claim the President’s order will “upend U.S. elections and disenfranchise millions of eligible voters.” Some on the Left also warn that outdated databases can sometimes list naturalized citizens as noncitizens.
Those that oppose the order are pushing the narrative that President Trump is “overreaching his authority” and taking away voting rights but the reality of the situation is that President Trump is only looking to remove illegal votes and restore trust in American elections!
