On Tuesday Trump was asked by a reporter to explain his recent comments he made to podcaster and former FBI deputy director, Dan Bongino, that the US should “nationalize the U.S. election.” On the show Trump stated that illegals are being brought into the country to vote illegally and that he wants republicans to be tougher on it.
“I want to see elections be honest, and if a state can’t run an election. If you think about it, the state is an agent for the federal government in elections.” Trump told reporters.
“When you see some of these states, what a disgrace it is, when you see crooked elections, and we had plenty of them. Take a look at Detroit, take a look at Pennsylvania, take look at Philadelphia, look at Atlanta. The federal government should not allow that. If they can’t count the votes legally and honestly then somebody else should take over.”
Trump has also claimed that late-arriving ballots and electoral counts that go on for weeks after the election undermine confidence in elections. He’s right, it doesn’t make sense that Florida has nearly all ballots counted on Election Day, while California can take weeks.
