Kimmel stated he had to pull his recent scheduled interview with Texas Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico from his ABC broadcast due to Trump’s FCC crackdown on political interviews on late night TV shows, implying Trump is somehow against free speech.
In the past, late night and daytime talk shows were automatically exempt from the “equal time rule,” which meant that broadcast stations were required to give “equal time” to opposing political candidacies. Under the Trump administration those FCC exemptions are no longer allowed. It appears now that if talk shows can’t be balanced with political interviews, they will receive penalties from Trumps FCC for violating political balance mandates.
So, to me, Kimmel and his left-leaning TV network are really upset because they can no longer favor the Democrat Party and give unbalanced airtime to left-wing candidates.
