Social media and digital platforms are now being used to amplify political rhetoric and racial division because highly emotional content increases user engagement, it also creates profit for the platform. This can create an environment where users are continuously manipulated by being fed propaganda that distorts political perception.

To make matters worse, fake accounts and troll networks are weaponizing social media to rev up racial division and manipulate political discourse. Groups use coordinated efforts to masquerade as authentic users or activist pages to deliberately amplify extreme views to create divide for political gain.

The exact numbers aren’t clear, but studies estimate that roughly 10% to 15% of all active Facebook profiles are fake or automated. This translates to 150 million fake accounts on the platform.

Research shows that for the first time social media has now overtaken legacy media as the primary news source for Americans.

This means that the consistent liberal bias and selective reporting, particularly when it comes to political and covering crimes involving race, has shifted from legacy mainstream media into popular social media platforms.
