Even news sources that routinely resist trump recently reported that over 1,000 arrests have been made since Trump sent federal law enforcement to Washington D.C. earlier this month. It was also reported that a large percentage of those arrested were immigrants lacking legal status.
The White House announced that over 100 firearms have been seized, and more than five gang members have been arrested.
Trump recently stated he may want to turn his federal policing push to other hi-crime cities, with maybe Baltimore and Chicago next. Like D.C. many blue cities are represented by Democrat mayors. But Trump appeared to back off his plan Monday, saying it would be better to be asked by state and local officials.
“We want to go from here to other places…I was telling some of the people that in a certain way you really want to be asked to go. I hate to barge in on a city and then be treated horribly by corrupt politicians and bad politicians,” Trump told reporters from the Oval Office.
Trump seems to be backing off his plan for now of cleaning up crime in certain Democrat run cities. Maybe his aggressive actions in D.C. will at least motivate Democrat mayors across the nation to be stronger on crime.
One thing is clear, if local officials don’t protect their citizens, Trump is more than willing to do it for them.
